Quilts Across America Pattern
I am thrilled to be part of Quilts Across America and wanted to share a simple and fast quilt pattern that you can use for any charity quilt project. In this blog post, we will be using the Eight at Once technique to create QUICK HSTs (half-square triangles). So, grab your fabric and sewing supplies, and let's get started!
Fabric Requirements:
To make this quilt, you will need the following fabric quantities:
- 2¾ Yards of green fabric
- 1½ Yards of white fabric
- 1½ Yards of red fabric
- 4½ Yards of backing fabric
- 5/8 Yards of binding fabric
Cutting:
Begin by cutting your fabrics according to the following measurements:
Green fabric:
- (3) 18" x 18" squares for creating 8 at once HSTs
- (7) 6" x width of fabric (WOF) strips for the border
White fabric:
- (3) 18" x 18" squares for creating 8 at once HSTs
Red fabric:
- (24) 8½" x 8½" squares for the solid blocks
Quilt Assembly:
Step 1: Create 8 at once HSTs using the white and green 18" squares. Layer one White and one Green 18” square face to face, mark diagonal lines in both directions, and stitch on both sides of both lines as shown in diagram. Cut HST’s apart as show in diagram and press seam as desired.
Step 2: Refer to the quilt image and lay out the HSTs and red squares. Stitch them together in rows according to the design.
Step 3: Remove the selvages from the border strips and stitch them together on the short ends.
Step 4: Attach the side borders to the sides of the quilt, followed by the top and bottom borders.
Step 5: Layer the quilt top, batting, and backing, and quilt as desired.
Step 6: Finish the quilt by binding it using your preferred method.
Conclusion:
Congratulations! You have completed your charity quilt using this easy and quick pattern. I hope you enjoyed making it and that it brings comfort and warmth to its recipient. Happy stitching and thank you for being part of Quilts Across America!
